Work Statements for Simplified Acquisitions (1 Day)


Course Perspective: This course addresses the professional aspects of purchasing. It presents the legal structure of purchasing including regulatory requirements, Uniform Commercial Code principles, and case law decisions. It focuses upon new requirements and techniques for acquiring commercial items; special policies and guidelines for procuring support services; provision and clause selection and development; and purchase order administration.


Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize and execute their responsibilities for preparing and/or reviewing a simplified acquisition work

  • Conduct market research to identify and gather work statement data.

  • Apply a simple format and techniques for generating work statement.

  • Identify key elements of a scoping statement and when/how to expand on those elements.

  • Prepare a task description and organize tasks by service category or job execution.

  • Prepare performance-based tasks and include design-oriented descriptions where necessary.

  • Identify and prepare adequate descriptions for deliverables including products, documents, and

  • Identify and prepare adequate descriptions for services including performance standards.

  • Identify and set-forth Government-furnished property, if any, including conditions transfer.

  • Avoid common mistakes associated with expressing requirements.

  • Conduct an effective work statement edit.


CLPs/Hours: 8 hours/CLPs are issued for successful completion of this course. Classroom hours are 8:30 – 4:30.
